Racial Capitalism, Neoliberalism & Financialization
Justus Liebig University, 4.-5. July 2018
International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC)
Phil 1, Alter Steinbacher Weg 38, 35394 Giessen, Room. 001
The question of ´solidarity` is emerging as a central topic in critical social sciences and migration studies concerned with neoliberal racism, right-wing populism and global postcolonial entanglements in financial capitalism in recent years. Yet, the question of why “racism, the coloniality of power and antifeminism” matter in times of global right wing populism is rather absent in these debates. This international workshop takes up this question by focusing on why and how the analysis of ´Racial Capitalism` matters and draws on critical feminist and decolonial thought.
In this spirit, we are pleased to invite you to this international workshop on Solidarity Reloaded: Racial Capitalism, Neoliberalism & Financialization. We have invited international contemporary thinkers, who have contributed key intellectual, academic and political interventions to this debate.
Our keynote speakers for the conference include:
Gargi Bhattacharyya (Professor of Sociology. Sociology, Centre for Migration, Refugees and Belonging at the University of East London)
Santiago Castro Gómez (Philosopher at Pontific University Xaveriana, Bogotá)
Cristina Vega Solís (Professor of Sociology and Gender Studies at the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, Ecuador – FLACSO)
