HERstories: What happened to Marielle Franco?

The Research Network in Queer Studies, Decolonial Feminisms and Cultural Transformations is happy to announce the next conversation with our associate Katucha Bento (University of Leeds) on the 5th of Decembre at 4pm in Philosophikum II, Building E, R. 207

Katuchas background is rooted in the Black Movement in Brazil, school of samba and Black feminism. She did her BA in Sociology and Politics at the Fundação Escola de Sociologia e Política de São Paulo with a partial grant from a project called Políticas da Cor (Politics of Colour) funded by Ford Foundation. She studied a MA in Sociology at the University of Barcelona where she also worked as researcher with Transgender Women in Spain analysing the public Heath Care during the transition. Her MA research was on the construction of white lesbian desire challenging paradigms of whiteness and the possibilities of activism in the LGBTQI community. Katucha is currently in a doctorate programme at the University of Leeds researching how Black Brazilian Women emotionally negotiate politics of “Othering” in the United Kingdom and a visiting researcher at Leeds Beckett University. Her areas of interests are emotional laden of diaspora, Black Feminisms, Decoloniality, Critical Race Studies, Critical Rhetorical Analysis and Education.
